Dr. Michael Grandis

Dr.  Michael Grandis is the founder and owner of the Grandis Evaluation Center, P.C.  He has been providing assessment services since 1983. He received his Masters Degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1980. Dr. Grandis received his Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology in 1990 from the Cambridge Graduate School of Psychology in Los Angeles, California. A resident of Asheville, NC since 1998, Dr. Grandis has directed programs for Substance Abuse Treatment for adolescents and young adults and Community Living programs for people with Developmental Disabilities. In Western North Carolina, Dr. Grandis was the lead psychologist for the behavioral unit at the Black Mountain Center. He has worked with local school systems and community agencies providing behavioral consultation, developing client specific treatment plans and assessing vocational and educational needs. Over a span of more than 40 years he has administered mental health evaluations for a wide range of inpatient and outpatient clinical populations.  He has also performed forensic assessment for local Departments of Social Services and attorneys seeking input on parenting capacity and other legal matters.  In conjunction with these concerns he has served as an expert witness, providing forensic reporting and court testimony. Dr. Grandis no longer sees patients but continues as the Executive Director for the Grandis Evaluation Center, PC

Psychologists


Rich Johnston, MA, LPA,

Rich Johnston, MA, LPA, has been with the Grandis Evaluation Center for over 13 years. He is a Licensed Psychological Associate who earned his Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Appalachian State University in 1990. He has over thirty years’ experience working in a variety of settings, with 20 of those years devoted exclusively to conducting psychological evaluations with all ages and populations. He has provided a range of psychological services within inpatient psychiatric settings and outpatient clinics and has worked in both clinical and administrative positions, including as Clinical Director for a mental health service agency. Rich is very familiar with the mental health service delivery system in North Carolina and applies this experience to the process of effectively addressing the referral issues presented here at Grandis.

Sasha

Sasha has been part of the Grandis team for over three years and was nationally certified as a therapy dog with Pet Partners in April of 2021. She is onsite two days per week with her handler Rich Johnston and sometimes hers is the first smiling face you will see upon arrival. She provides support to everyone present, helping to supplement the calm setting we strive to maintain. However, we are aware that dogs are not everyone’s cup of tea and we try to be mindful of this preference. Please let us know if you would rather not interact.

Dr. J. Scott Hinkle, PhD

Dr. J. Scott Hinkle, PhD, is a North Carolina Licensed Psychologist (#1551) with over 35 years experience in psychological assessment and treatment planning. He graduated from Florida State University and was an international mental health educator for almost 20 years. Dr. Hinkle has directed a graduate school marriage, couples, and family therapy training program and was a professor of psychodiagnosis, research, and mental health counseling. He hails from Nashville, TN and lived in Bangkok as a young child. When not working he enjoys outdoor pursuits and making music.

Megan Henrichsen, LPA, BCBA

Megan Henrichsen, LPA, BCBA, is a Licensed Psychological Associate-Health Services Provider and Board Certified Behavior Analyst who earned her Master of Arts degree in 2010 and her Applied Behavior Analysis certificate in 2011.  She specializes in Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as dual diagnoses of ADHD, Anxiety Disorders, Down’s Syndrome, Major Depressive Disorder, ODD, and trauma-related disorders.  Megan joined Grandis Evaluation Center in November 2023 to help increase evaluation services in North Carolina.  When she is not working, Megan enjoys traveling, seeing her family, and spending time with her dog.

Dr. Mike Feeney, PhD

Dr. Mike Feeney, PhD. is a Licensed Psychologist (NC# 5991) with a passion for working with young people and their families, especially those affected by challenging behaviors, adverse events, and developmental or learning differences. Dr. Feeney earned his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from East Tennessee State University,  and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children, part of VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. Since then, his clinical training and work has spanned acute, residential, and outpatient care, juvenile justice, and medical settings, providing psychological assessments and treatment. Most recently, Dr. Feeney served as the clinical director of a residential treatment center for adolescents in western North Carolina. At Grandis Evaluation Center, Dr. Feeney conducts evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults, and values the collaborative process of testing and providing person-centered recommendations for his clients.

John Baley, LPA, JD

John Baley is the Director of Psychology at the Black Mountain Neuromedical Treatment Center and an attorney in Asheville, NC. Professionally, he focuses on supporting improved behavioral health and social equity for everyone, particularly historically underserved populations. As a psychologist, he specializes in clinical neuropsychology and works primarily with people with neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive concerns. He leverages his expertise in applied behavior analysis, clinical assessment, and the RFT/ACT model to serve as a resource for other clinicians throughout the area and expand access to vital behavioral health services. John is also a clinical addictions specialist and is licensed with the North Carolina. Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board as certified clinical supervisor. He works directly with persons struggling with serious substance misuse and/or mental illness in Asheville on a volunteer basis, and they are never far from his heart. In his personal life, John lives with his partner, Laura, and his child, Myron Jack. He enjoys running, Crossfit, and culinary experimentation.

Dr. Marcy Price-Crist, PhD

Dr. Marcy Price-Crist, PhD, is a licensed psychologist in North Carolina. Marcy is fairly new to the Asheville area. She completed her doctoral internship and fellowship in Illinois where she worked with violent persons in a detainment facility, focusing on forensic psychology. Her practicum experience involved being a part of Wraparound services for adolescents in Camarillo, CA. Marcy earned her PhD in Clinical Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, CA. She studied homelessness in the wake of natural disasters extensively and published an original dissertation on the topic entitled, Natural Disaster-related Loss of Home: A Phenomenological Investigation. Marcy has also lived, studied, and worked in Pensacola, FL where she earned a BA in psychology from the University of West Florida. While completing her dissertation, Marcy lived in New Orleans for two years as a part of conducting research. Alongside studying psychology, Marcy has been coaching competitive gymnastics for over two decades. When she is not working, Marcy enjoys being outdoors, spending time with her pets, and writing. She recently co-authored an original peer-reviewed journal article entitled, Mommy Brain in the United States.

Dr. Amanda Hoffman

Dr. Amanda Hoffman is a licensed psychologist (#5899) in the state of North Carolina. She completed her undergraduate training in psychology at Portland State University and completed her MA in Forensic Psychology from the University of North Dakota. She received her PsyD degree from California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in 2019. After completing her APA-accredited internship and post-doctoral training at Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego, CA, she moved to North Carolina to enjoy nature and a slower pace of life. Dr. Hoffman specializes in assessment of severe and persistent mental health illness, behavioral issues, and neurocognitive disorders with additional experience in disability assessment for adults, children, and veterans.

Dr. Stephen McEachen, Ph.D.

Dr. McEachen holds NC Psychologist License #4631.  His interest in psychology began in university, and subsequently he earned a doctorate degree in clinical psychology. Early in his career he worked in an adolescent day treatment program and an adolescent residential treatment program. Dr.  McEachen subsequently worked in a private psychiatric hospital, serving as the Director of Psychological Services and overseeing the Adolescent Program. While living and working in California, Dr. McEachen cultivated a specialization in Police Psychology and served as a psychological consultant for a law enforcement agency, while also offering additional psychological consulting services to the State of California.

Dr. McEachen's paternal family originates from an island located to the northeast of mainland Nova Scotia, Canada. His interest in the culture and history of Cape Breton led him to pursue employment in the Cape Breton District Health Authority’s child and adolescent program. Dr. McEachen spent ten years living and working in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada.  

Upon returning to the United States, and locating in Asheville, NC, Dr. McEachen continued to work with children, adolescents, and adults, and he continued his interest in working with law enforcement in an outpatient evaluation program. Dr. McEachen subsequently placed his professional interest in a state-wide program that offers behavioral support and psycho-diagnostic assessments for youth involved in the NC Juvenile Justice program.

When not involved in the practice of psychology, Dr. McEachen can be found studying and speaking Scottish Gaelic as well as enjoying the songs and storytelling associated with this fascinating culture.

Dr. Karly Murphy, Ph.D.

Karly M. Murphy, PhD is a North Carolina Licensed Psychologist (#6614) who provides comprehensive psychological evaluations at Grandis Evaluation Center. She earned her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Seattle Pacific University in 2018 and completed her predoctoral internship at the University of Florida.
Dr. Murphy developed a strong interest in psychological assessment during her internship training and values the integrative process of clinical interviewing, standardized testing, and diagnostic formulation. Her training and early career have included extensive research and clinical work with health-related populations, particularly individuals coping with serious medical conditions such as cancer. This background informs her careful, evidence-based approach to evaluation and her attention to developmental, medical, and contextual factors relevant to diagnostic clarification and treatment planning.
